Ice Cream Sandwiches

Treats that make you feel like a kid again are always enticing. But most of those old-fashioned delights are loaded with fat and calories. Now that you're an adult, you can still enjoy a cool dessert without the guilt. Ice cream sandwiches are a classic summertime treat and making them from scratch is even more special. FoodFit Executive Chef Bonnie Moore was able to give this cool ice cream treat a makeover, reducing 150 calories, an amazing 14 grams of fat and 10 grams of saturated fat. We slimmed this sandwich down, but you can be sure we didn't lose the sweet taste!

Bonnie was able to make these changes by:

  • Using egg whites instead of whole eggs
  • Replacing half of the butter with oil to reduce the amount of saturated fat
  • Using low-fat frozen yogurt instead of ice cream
  • Cutting down on the chocolate and adding peppermint candies for extra flavor
