Thanksgiving Planner

Preparing a complete Thanksgiving dinner takes a lot of effort and even more planning. This year, let us help you keep track of what you need with our handy shopping list. Once you've assembled all of your ingredients, simply follow our FoodFit Prep Plan and check the boxes as you finish each step. You'll be so prepared that you might find that you even have a little time left over for yourself this year!

Four Weeks Ahead

If planning to use a fresh turkey, now's the time to order it to ensure timely delivery.
Two Weeks Ahead
Make and freeze pie or tart crusts.
Begin thinking about your centerpiece and how you wish to assemble it. Is there a favorite vase or bowl that you would like to use? Remember, fresh fall fruit, nuts in their shells, fall foliage and flowers combine easily to make a lovely centerpiece.
Have kids gather magnolia leaves, pinecones and acorns to strew about the table for a lovely addition to your centerpiece. For extra sparkle, spray paint them gold or silver.
Four Days Ahead
all non-perishables
fresh whole pumpkins
canned pumpkin puree
loaf of sourdough bread for stuffing
wild rice
dried fruits
One Day Before
If planning to make a pork loin, pick it up from the butcher.
fresh vegetables and greens
fresh fruits, cranberries
potatoes, squash, sweet potatoes or parsnips
smoked oysters
fresh flowers for a fall-themed centerpiece
FoodFit Basic Prep Plan
Preheat the oven while you remove the turkey from the refrigerator and prepare it for the roasting pan.
Place the turkey in the oven and baste with the juices every 30 to 45 minutes until golden brown and done, about 3 to 4 hours.
Meanwhile, peel and cut the vegetables.
Prepare the stuffing and put it in the oven to bake while the turkey continues to cook.
Begin cooking the vegetables and blanch the green beans.
Finish all of the vegetables except those that are to be sautéed.
When the turkey is done, remove from the oven and allow the turkey to rest for 30 minutes before carving.
Reheat the soup until hot.
Make the gravy.
Sauté the vegetables.
Warm the dessert in the oven.
