Recipe Revue

Just a Little Nutty

It's summer party season again and time to refresh your recipe repertoire. If you're tired of bringing the same old potato or macaroni salad to potlucks and barbecues, these festive finger foods will be a welcome change. Each recipe includes walnuts in ways you've probably never tried. If you like the taste and crunch of walnuts in breads and desserts, we're sure you'll love their nutty goodness in these savory bites.

Healthy Nuggets

Walnuts are rich in flavor and in polyunsaturated fats, which help to decrease "bad", LDL cholesterol levels, without affecting the HDL or "good" cholesterol levels. Walnuts are also high in omega-3 fatty acids, which have been linked to maintaining a healthy heart. We've created a bevy of delicious recipes that highlight walnuts. You just need a handful of them to liven up a dish with their wonderful earthiness and texture.

Packed with creamy polenta, mushrooms take on a whole new allure. Our Polenta Stuffed Mushrooms with Walnuts are the perfect size for presenting on a tray at an elegant dinner party. They would also do equally well as an appetizer at a bridal or baby shower.

The next recipe is quite easy to make, but its presentation really says, "Wow, she spent a lot of time making those!" Perfect for serving on a bright platter, these Roasted Eggplant and Walnut Tomato Caps will keep folks coming back for another bite.

Dip Delights

For something a little more exotic, try Turkish Roasted Eggplant Puree with Yogurt and Walnuts. Serve it in a rustic bowl and garnish with chopped walnuts and fresh parsley. Offer your guests warm pita bread to scoop the delicious puree up with. This dish is best at room temperature, so it's perfect for an al fresco dinner party or barbecue.

The Black-Eyed Peas and Walnut Spread takes a down-home staple and dresses it up for a fun and flavorful hors d'oeuvre. Serve it on a sliced, fresh baguette and voila, you have a dish to bring to a picnic or house warming party!

Sweet and Savory

Nothing looks more tasteful on a formal table than our Endive Spears with Walnut Chicken Salad. These classy appetizers are perfect with a bite of tender chicken mixed with juicy grapes and the crunch of walnuts.

Summer cocktail parties are so much fun to go to. Whether you're playing the part of the host or being a gracious guest, Spicy Summer Cocktail Nuts are a surefire hit. The mix of spiced nuts and sweet, dried pineapple and apricots will keep guests satisfied and conversation flowing.

Road trips are an American classic and lots of fun for the whole family. Stave off the inevitable cry of, "Are we there yet?" with chewy Dried Cherry and Walnut Bars with Chocolate Drizzle. They'll keep for hours in a cooler and are perfect for picnics and camping trips too.
