Did anyone see the segment on the Today Show this morning about this guy who did a documentary on his experience eating McDonald's food only for three meals every single day for a month? His movie is called Super Size Me. It was shocking how much weight he gained -- 25 pounds in 30 days! I heard he screened the movie at Sundance and it did well. I'd definitely like to check it out. He visited all these doctors during his experiment and it was scary how much damage he did to his body in those 30 days. They actually told him to cut the experiment short. I was watching with my husband and we both laughed because for about 6 months, he ate McD's every day at lunch and sure enough he gained like 25 pounds. He was horrified and of course I told him that was the cause, but he didn't listen!

OMG! I did not see this show, but you got me thinking about it! I found the site for the movie:
www.supersizeme.com

Be sure to click on the "supersize me by the pound" link at the top of the site for some very interesting facts!

2 x 4, thanks for sending that link. I couldn't believe some of those stats. Two very scary ones: Americans consume 1,000,000 animals an hour and it takes 7 hrs to walk off a big mac meal! These stats really help put things in perspective, don't they? I read a really good interview with the filmmaker on NYTimes.com and I've heard the movie is doing well. I will try to catch it so I can see what all the fuss is about myself.

It is incredible the damage excessive fats and fried foods can cause. We feel so much better with a healthy, balanced diet. More energy.[:<>]

I saw Super Size Me yesterday- although the guy took things to the extreme -- it got me thinking !!! It was amazing to see how his stats changed - he destroyed his liver in just 30 days!

We were just talking about this movie this weekend! A friend was saying that everytime McDonald's asked him if he wanted to "supersize it" he would stop, turn around and look into the camera and say "Yes. Yes I do!"

Then we talked about how it was not McDonald's fault. This guy was making poor choices. McDonald's did *try* to provide some healthier choices for people in the past (does anyone remember the McDonald's veggie burger?) but people have not supported those products... therefore, they chose to provide people with the product they want... PLUS, they will SUPERSIZE IT!

It's odd to me the way things are so circular. Not too long ago they had these "salad shakers". I LOVED the chef salad one and I would get it with this DELICIOUS low fat herb vinagrette dressing that had only like 15 calories. Then they stopped selling it and all salads. Now they are selling them again, but not the chef one that I loved and not the dressing that I liked. They have a vinagrette now, but it is not as good and it has more calories. hmmm - if only more people would have tried it, I might still be able to get it today.

I am happy that more restaurants are offering healthy things now. I also make it a point that when I do get fast food - not only do I NOT super size it, I don't large it either - small or medium only. I'll have to check this movie out. Is it in normal theatres?

ISN'T THAT THE TRUTH HOLLY?!?!?! I remember Wendy's had these KILLER pita salads that I could not eat as a sandwich... I had to open them and eat them as a salad cause they were so CRAM-PACKED with lettuce and raw veggies! I would get the dressing on the side..... no more.

I saw that movie about 2 weeks ago and I thought it was really well done. It really makes you think about what you eat and how it impacts your health...

If you get the chance to see this movie... GO SEE IT!

I agree that he did not have to supersize, in fact one of the ground rules he set was that he would only super size when asked and this happened only 9 times in 30 days. It is true that he took this to the extreme. He also showed that some of the foods that we think are healthy are full of fat such as the yogurt parfaits.

It is all about choice, you are right. This documentry just brought to the forefront many health risks that some of us are not aware of.

It is a must see for all of us who care about our health and healthy food choices.

What if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

I LOVED THOSE. That was my first experience with sprouts and I couldn't get enough.
