If you are an active person, liking to exercise 60-120 minutes a day, 7 days a week, and you also like to eat to suit, then you are probably quite a muscley person.

So, the Body Mass Index won't actually tell you whether you're overweight or not. It is for people who are more sedentary (e.g. 30 to 45 minutes' exercise, 5 times a week).

I advise anyone who knows that they eat fairly healthily, and who exercise a lot, to get a body fat measurement.

Range:
  • 10-12% of body weight is essential fat. However, professional athletes are at this range, up to 15% fat for females.

  • The healthy proportion of most people's body weight is 18% being made of fat. For example, a healthy female who is 60kg, has 10.8kg of fat.

  • An obese rating is 30% or more of body weight made up of fat.



Bathroom scales are measuring fat, muscle, bone, food, water, and so forth. So, if you wish to lose fat only, then a body-fat scale is a more helpful measurement.
