Hello Everyone,
My name is Nikki & I just joined a few days ago. I'm a 20 yr old newly wed (married my highschool sweetie) & we live in Germany (thanks to the Army)! I've always been a "thick girl", but lately I feel as if I've let myself go. I'm 5'7 & weight 225 lbs...very scary for me to admit, also the biggest I've ever been in my life. I've been a size 16 for the past year..so even though my clothes still fit I feel alot bigger than before & I'm just so tired of having to search clothing stores for 1 pair of pants that will fit. Moving overseas & leaving my home & family for the 1st time has put alot of stress on me, & when I get stressed I eat. I joined food fit so I can get motivated to lose weight, get healthy and get out of this slump that I've put myself in. My goal is to get back down to about 155 lbs, which may take a while but I'm more than willing to get there. My problem is that I don't stick with any routine that I start & I desperately need to change that! I tend to get bored easily, so if anyone has any ideas to keep work outs fun let me know.
Hope everyone is doing good! Nice to meet everyone :)
-Nikki

Hi everyone. I just joined today and I am looking forward to learning a lot from this site. My name is Kathy and I live in Kentucky. I am 46 years old and have several health issues, fibromyalgia, arthritis, high blood pressure, allergies, and I am knocking at diabetes's door. I haven't always been this way. I worked for Weight Watchers and lost 60 pounds through their program. I kept it off for 8 years even after I quit Weight Watchers but then my sister died and the weight came back pound by pound. Right now I am really motivated. My mother is in the hospital reaping years of not taking care of herself. It breaks my heart to see her this way but it is a warning sign to me.
I have 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren, 1 dog and 1 husband of 30 years.
He is starting with me on the journey to better health, he's a very big fellow. I like to read knit, crochet, sew, work puzzles, read. Sorry that I have run on but I see that there are others in the same boat that I am and want them to know that they are not sailing alone.

GREETINGS TO ALL THE NEWBIES!!!

and Greetings to all the "regulars" too!!!

First of all, let me say that I have been a real slacker lately and I have not kept up with coming here to post on a regular basis. It REALLY helps my focus, but I guess that every once in a while ya just loose focus.... that said....

I am BACK!

I hope you come here often and post daily, weekly, monthly goals and post your progress! Keep a journal. It is fun to go back and actually SEE how far you have come along. It is a long and slow process, but well worth it! Remember that the weight did not come on overnight and it will not come off overnight.

Make small changes.

Make ONE SMALL CHANGE and keep it going until it becomes a habit. One of the BEST things you can change first is to keep a food journal. Write down every tiny little bite, lick, nibble, sip.... then calculate the calories. By keeping a journal you will be able to pinpoint areas where you can make improvements. You choose another small change and incorporate that change until it is habit...

WELCOME! WELCOME!

When we all get the chance to come here often, we post our daily G&G (things we are grateful for and goals). Simply acheiving a daily goal helps immensly.... plus having the SUPPORT of all your FoodFit friends is the greatest help of all!!!

Hi, my name is Bigbear, and I just joined this site. A little about me.. joining a site for weight loss is not a new thing for me, but joining one that is about HEALTHY weight loss is. I'm 20 years old, have struggled w/ dual ED's and depression, anxiety, etc. for the past 5 years. But recently, I've made some drastic changes in life, starting with breaking up w/ my boyfriend of 5 1/2 years. By doing that, I believe that I am allowing myself a chance to start over and find "me" again. I'm very interested in Nutrition and Fitness. I am studying Nutrition in college, and am studying to be a Personal Trainer in my spare time. I'd say I basically dedicate my life to health and fitness, but dont necessarily "practice what I preach". I'm currently 5'4" and 120 lbs. I'm looking to lose about 3-5 lbs of fat, and hopefully be about 116 w/ lean muscle mass.
I plan to do this by my birthday, which gives me 2 months, a very giving schedule. I am on this site to both receive and give support. I've been through a lot for my age, and feel that I can offer a lot for people who are looking for help and support.
Anyway, I'm very excited to be here!

Hi everyone....newbie here from Northern,Ontario,Canada. My name is Catherine, I am 44 years young, married and have 2 lovely daughters. I was at 172 pounds in March of this year and am now sitting at 148. On June 8th I got serious and started keeping track of my calorie intake and food choices and only take one day a week off from planned exercise. I want to get to 135 by end of September and 125 by end of October.

I do a 4 day cycle ( like the body builders do) days 1 - 2 - 3 I stay low end on my calorie intake (around 1260) and on day 4 I bump my calorie intake to 1550. Then I start the cycle again. It works for me...I have lost 17 pounds with this system since June 8th. My daughters' boyfriend is a body builder so I get my tips from him :-)

I eat a lot of fruit and fresh veggies too...my ratio is a little different from some programs which usually call for 55% carbs - 30% fat - 15% protein....my ratios are 50% carbs - 25% protein - 25% fat. I only eat lean cuts of red meat once a week and otherwise it's lean chicken, turkey and fish. I also like tofu when I am not in the mood for meat.

So far I have lucked out and have not gained weight or hit a plateau yet....of course that could change.

I burn a minimum of 2500 calories and as much as 3200 calories a week with exercise.

I run 40 minutes on my treadmill 6 times a week ( 4.5 mph at a 5% incline) and also enjoy Tae Bo Basics 25 minutes a day ( 6 times a week)....every Thursday I do a 10 mile bike ride with my mom and a few other gals and weather permitting on the weekends my daughters and I enjoy roller blading. Thats my cardio portion...I lack in the strength exercise department. I use the easy shaper pro for 30 minutes a few times a week (form of resistance workout) but would love to add free weights to my program. I plan on taking up swimming at out local YMCA this Fall...I have not been brave enough to buy a swimsuit yet so hoping in another month or so I will take the plunge so to speak :-)

I am 5'4" and small frame....( I actually weighed 97 pounds soaking wet when i graduated from high school many moons ago) but reality is I really want to get back to my pre quit smoking weight of 125. I quit 4 years ago and the pounds just kept adding up. Also had a full hysterectomy at 29...have been on low doses of estrogen replacement for years.

I have a sleep disorder which is why I am up so late all the time. I manage 4 hours sleep a night if I am lucky. Been this way for 4 years now...have been to sleep clinics and specialists but no solution and I don't do caffein at all.

I also have chronic neck pain ( from a car accident years ago) I have calcium build up in my neck and one of the disks is permanently moved to the right. I have tried chiropractors but it only seems to worsen so I just live with the daily pain ( I refused disk surgery...too much controversy on that one). I have a hard time doing crunches and sit ups but I try modified versions.

I have not been able to keep anything solid down for the last 4 days...have a bug or something. Very annoying as it is difficult to keep up with my exercise when you have little fuel in the body. Basically on liquids this week and modified exercise so may be a lost week for me :-(

I tell myself daily that every accomplishment...no matter how small is a step in the right direction!!!

Okay I wrote a book...sorry :-( Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Start and end your day with a smile :-)

WOW KitKat!

WELCOME to the FoodFit community! Your story is FABULOUS! Keep coming back here and talking about all you have done to get where you are today! I can use the inspiration!

I am sorry to hear about your health problems (I also had a hysto at age 38. One ovary left). Although I am far from any expert, it sounds like you are open to trying different things to help.

I was suffereing from chronic lower back, shoulder and neck pain for YEARS! The chiropractic seemed to help some, but it was so persistant. One thing lead to another and I decide to just take the plunge and have my teeth fixed. My WONDERFUL dentist performed extensive tests, had me fill out questionaire after questionaire and we began to treat my TMJ. I think I have always had it, but unless your case was extreme, they did not do much about it when we were growing up (I will be 44 in December). We started this about a year ago, maybe a little longer.

My lower back pain is GONE!

My shoulder blade does not scream everytime I try to move or lift anything!

My neck pain is almost completely gone, not to mention the tightness in the muscles under my jaw, chin and neck!!

I was just amazed!

Here's the other thing. A GF of mine DID go through with the disc surgery and she has not seen any improvement. She is on Oxycotin every day. She is FINALLY seeing her dentist and trying to catch up on some old problems. She had to loose a tooth and just got a root canal. The root canal tooth had abcessed and as a result of that she was hyper sensitive to all pain!! She called me yesterday to tell me that she was feeling SO MUCH BETTER!! I encouraged her to keep going after her teeth and make sure all issues are addressed... and to NOT WAIT until there is so much discomfort before she does something.

I have learned that everything is connected. I am just amazed how getting my bite and teeth in good shape has affected the way the rest of my body feels!

KitKat! I look forward to getting to know you!

Thank you for the wonderful welcome fattyfatty2x4 :-)

I had my weekly weigh in today and its not a record breaker but I did manage to lose another 1.2 pounds, my body fat % is down another 2 % and I lost a few inches in all the right places ( of course with doing cardio exercise I have lost some in the boob department but hubby says its all good) LOL I told him if they disappear completely at the end of my weight loss program he can always buy me a new set for Christmas (LMAO) I am now 147.2 pounds....yipee...I love that my pants are falling off ( that just means I get to go shopping).

Wow you had quite the ordeal with your teeth. I am glad it worked out and you are basically pain free....big parade :-) I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled back in my early 20's and they were all IMPACTED....I looked like a chipmunk with both cheeks full of nuts (2 month supply) and I could not eat meat for 6 months afterwards. I see a dentist every six months and keep up with the dental end of things. Sorry to hear about your GF and her disk surgery :-(

It is suppose to be 41 Celsius (105.4 F) with the humidex tomorrow....yikes...going to have to get up really early and try and get my exercise in before it gets to that point or I will faint!!!

I am off to relax in my jaccuzi....have a great evening!!!

Hi - I'm new to the site and am confused, so hopefully I can get some guidance... On top of that, I've never participated in an online community, so if I get responses, I hope I can find them!! I'm 43, I live in California, close to Sacramento. I have recently sold my business, a cute little boutique, and am settling into a new daily routine while starting up another business. Over the past few years, I've put on a few - ok - more than a few extra pounds. I need to drop about 30 pounds from my petite 5'2" frame!! I don't handle deprivation well, so never diet. I want a healthy eating program that's fairly easy to follow.

Here is what I need help with:
1. The plan never took into account my preferences. Like the fact that I don't cook or follow recipes for lunch. Like the fact that I generally eat the same thing every day for breakfast. I tried to change my breakfast for one day and had to open each item listed under breakfast to get an equivalent - quite cumbersome!!
2. If I want to use some of the other recipes on the site, i.e. recipes with 5 ingredients or less... How do I get these substituted into my plan? It seems like the plan section and the recipes section are completely separate, and if you like the recipes, you have to do the calorie calculations and balance of meal planning for the day yourself.

Any insight would be helpful. The site and recipes seem great!!!
Thanks!

Hi, my name's Sara Maria and I just joined the site and just posted a small thread about myself but I'll expand a little here in this thread!

I am 24 years old and live in Toronto, Canada. I was born here but for 10 years I lived overseas in Malaysia and Australia (5 years in each place) due to my dad's job. 3 years ago I moved back to Toronto to go to school to become an early childhood educator and I am now working at the daycare in the gym (its a start) as well as front reception from 5 am till 8 am).

Since April I have been actively trying to lose weight. Since then I've lost approximately 15-17 lbs (I haven't weighed myself recently so I'm not sure the exact amount) by working out and working on what I've been eating. I've only recently started working the 5 am shift here at my gym and I've found it really hard to motivate myself to work out when I'm here for 7 hours in the morning then have to come back for a 3 hour shift in the evening (I've spent the last three weeks preparing to move into a new apartment and so the five hour's in between my shifts has been used up trying to get ready for it), so I haven't been doing so well lately. I'm always on my feet which probably helps as I haven't gained any back.

I gained weight steadily from 16 years old after we moved to Australia mainly because I was an emotional eater and anything could set me off on a binge of junkfood eating. I had a major problem with having whole packages of pasta in one sitting, as it was a comfort food to me then, as well as junk food (I worked in a fast food chain for 2 1/2 years). For the last 3 years I haven't been drinking soda's (even diet) and I've been working on the binge eating and late night snacking. When I feel stressed out now I tend to come into the gym and do a light cardio work out or do some machines and I start to feel better.

My Gosh, I just realized how long this post is. I apologize. Thanks to everyone!
