Holistic Healing: Tai Chi and Qigong, Part I (cont.)

FoodFit   What are some of the specific health benefits of tai chi and qigong?

Tai chi and qigong are among these prescriptions because of the numerous health benefits for mind, body and spirit. These exercises involve physical activity, meditation, acupressure and internal organ massage, as well as the release of tension and development of the self.

Physically, these practices increase the strength and vitality of the muscles, tendons, bones, blood flow, postural and spinal alignment, sensory acuity and more. Mentally, they reel in one's "mile-a-minute" mental wanderings, letting go of obsessive thoughts and distractions, and focus instead on breath control, energy movement and being present in the moment. Emotionally, they focus on balancing one's inner life with specific movements designed to increase or release specific emotional conditions/states. Spiritually, they increase one's vitality, outlook and sense of one's own character and presence.

About John Crowl

John has been studying and practicing martial arts for 25 years, starting with judo and American boxing in his pre-teens. Seven years ago, he shifted focus to the internal martial arts of tai chi and qigong. John has been practicing devotedly several hours every day since then. The shift in focus came about through recovery from a cross between environmental illness and chronic fatigue brought on by his commercial business. John is not a master, but is a devoted student and practitioner. His practice focuses on cultivation of the life essence, increasing vitality and clarity and healing all imbalances and ailments. John shares his practice and understanding of these profound disciplines, and the change and difference that these practices can manifest in anyone's life.
