The flavor is really non-descript, which is probably why somebody suggesting adding jamon or andoille. To the author's credit, the instructions were clear and the proportions work out nicely. However, I chose to cook my rice separately and then add to a lot less chicken stock. Maybe that's why the flavor is lacking?? Anyhow, I used the filling for a meat-free enchilada and it worked out nicely. Other than as a filling, it's not worth the time.
