2. Cut the squashes in half and place in a shallow baking dish, cut side down with 2 inches of water and bake for 30 minutes.
3. Remove the squashes from the oven and carefully turn the squashes over so that the cut side faces up. Add 1 inch of water to the pan. Add one teaspoon of butter and one teaspoon of brown sugar to the cavity of each squash half and baste the flesh of the squash with the brown sugar mixture.
4. Return the squash halves to the oven and bake for another 30 minutes until golden.
